spring blossoms in miyamae : May 23 2025

are these flowers not pretty? this park is the goal for this nightwalker adventure. i was expecting a different bloom but these are way better than expected. allow me to traceback a bit.

intro

it all started with photos of these flowers: azaleas are starting to bloom around tokyo. but i got attracted to this specific bush that afternoon, i'm pretty sure these flowers were coming from one trunk but how come the flowers were multicolored? i just have no clue how that came to be. it sure looked pretty and it caught my attention. now that gave me some idea of where to go for the nightwalk, i wanted to go to a flower park.

i arrived at Ogunohara Park (尾久の原公園) and no flowers were in sight. this was as expected though. this park was known for sakura and that season is way over. those white petals have all fallen and leaves have already taken over the branches. i wanted to pass by this park just in case i missed some other flowering plant. no flowers so far, that meant that no flowers missed. i sounded like an expert in that line but i really have no certificate to show you; not an expert over here.

Miyamae Park (宮前公園)

i honestly got lost for a bit, definitely overlooked that small street which led to this park. i had to double check the map before finally reaching the area. in all honesty, these blooms were not what i expected to see. i will share more of that later. let us appreciate these roses for now. they were so abundant in the area, and i am pretty sure that these arches were meant to be trellises for these bushes.

these flowers were also not what i expected, in fact i had to search the internet for the name of this flower. they are called alexandra rose according to my picture search, a hybrid of the old and new variations of roses. they really do not look like roses to me, but i guess i am only accustomed to the typical rose shapes. but please do correct me if these were incorrectly labelled, as i have said i only did a picture search in google.

here is another species of rose in this park, this time having a quite typical rose shape. but these certainly looked like it had more petals in each flower. my search told me that these are of the variety garden rose, and these are cultivated for gardens as the name suggested.

the other flower is called orlaya as per google. these are originally from europe, it said. these also looked so pretty specially when clumped together like these. none of these these two were also expected.

these on the other hand, were what i was expecting to see in this park. i was here last year and these hydrangeas were in full bloom then. they were all so white with such huge round bunches, they looked like popcorns. and they were blooming so abundantly then that this specific place in the picture looked like white balls with no green leaves in sight. ok there were a bit of greens as rechecked in the post below.

so golden and flowery miyamae park: July 3 2024

these hydrangeas were obviously still very young, but judging from the date of the previous post, does that mean that hydrangeas need more than a month to fully bloom? that is a long time for a flower.

here is what the northside of the park looked like. these yellow roses were the main attraction over here. the trellis arches also had red roses but they just don't photograph well at night. just sharing that there were also red ones. it was just that this nightwalker had no good pictures of them.

here are more roses, this time google said that these were rosa bonicas. by this point, i really am not sure if these labels are correct so please do not prosecute me for these. all i know is that these also looked lovely.

the first of these next flowers is what is commonly called yellow chamomile or golden marguerite. they were so abundant in one space in the park and they must have bloomed for quite sometime now, the petals were all shrunken and only that golden bulbous center was left in most of these.

the other yellow flower is commonly called st. john's wort or kinshibai in japan. the internet said that this flower signals that summer is coming. oh no! i'm still not ready for the summer heat.

white gauras were also in there. these were already near the borders of the park toward the river. this bush looked wild but i'm pretty sure this was intentional.

right beside the seemingly flower park was this wide field. the upper banks were filled with these golden grasses. now these i am not sure if it's intentional and taken care of. these golden grasses were so enjoyable to watch as they sway with the breeze, they surely absorbed my stress.

heading back

i had a u-turn and headed back home right after the park visit. that one made me happy really. near home, i decided to climb up the overhead walkway and that gave me a clear view of the train station nearby. train stations look so simple but very useful. i just hope to have one of these back in my island hometown.

here were more flowers in the strip of public land in front of a flower shop near home. this actually sparked a conversation with the housemate. he asked if private citizens were allowed to plant and take care of the narrow public strip of land at the sidewalk in front of their properties. i also don't know. but as long as those plants do not harm the people walking and do not bother them in anyway, then i guess these should be fine. that is just me though.
