Here are some more pics from my recent visit to the Local Rookery here in Florida.
This post will show some of shots of Wood Storks during early nesting season (April).
These birds are truly amazing. They look like something from Jurassic Park movie with their leathery neck and large beak. These get huge, over 3 ft (1 meter) tall and can have over 60 inch (1.5 meter) wingspan.
This one was actively building nest, it was amazing to see this huge bird take flight, or have it come hovering in for a landing.
This is one of my favorites below, taken just as it was preparing to take off and fly back to the nest.
Truly a face only a mother could love.
Hard to believe this thing can actually fly into a tree, but fly they do!
Keeping an eye on this gator! Storks have actually been known to eat small alligators. I just saw a video of one last week on one of the other social media feeds.
Such long, spindly legs on these, this allows them to fish in deeper water than many of the other wading birds here.

Shot with Sony A7 R-IV and Sony 200-600mm lens.
What great photos!
I knew they were huge birds, but I honestly didn't know they could reach a meter in height.
Excellent shots, dear friend @ksteem. I appreciate you sharing them with us.
Have a beautiful Sunday!
Thank you and yes these are certainly impressive to see up close. They look like prehistoric flying dinosaurs! We will sometimes see them in our neighborhood when driving out. Very strange to see a bird walking the street and looking you straight in the eye as you drive by!
This bird looks so weird and nothing like the storks we have here. 😃
Right? They are one of the most bizarre looking I've found here so far. Amazing all the different types of birds, even the closely related ones seem to have all their little differences depending on their location (and historical DNA I suppose).
you are great 👍 managed to take a perfect picture of the bird, the pose I like the most
Thanks, I don't have many bird in flight shots yet, and was happy to grab this.
Greetings friend. You have really wonderful photos in your post, the bird has nice colours on it body. She was busy with her work.
Thanks for viewing. Yes, was lucky to catch it going back and forth several times.
You are welcome.
Wow great pictures, I never seen a bird like that! The head is so scary looks like a dinosaur like you said, and 1 meter, oh man
